Meet the Founders
Scholars Academy is led by two experienced specialists in Mathematics and English, combining over 30 years of educational expertise across teaching, leadership, and 11+ preparation.

Myra, Co-founder (Mathematics)
Myra is a highly experienced mathematics specialist, educator, and strategic education consultant with over 20 years’ experience across teaching, leadership, and system-level work.
Her career includes senior leadership roles and a period as Head of Maths at Chelmsford County High School for Girls, alongside earlier progression into Assistant Headship and qualification for secondary headship. She has taught across Key Stages 2–5, giving her a comprehensive understanding of the full learning journey and the progression required for successful 11+ preparation.
Her work is grounded in strong pedagogy, informed by her role as a consultant for the Prince’s Teaching Institute, alongside a clear, structured approach to teaching and a deep understanding of how children develop mathematical confidence.
Beyond the classroom, Myra is an entrepreneur and community leader, having founded several initiatives in Chelmsford focused on wellbeing, connection, and opportunity. She is also a Foundation Governor at King Edward VI Grammar School, reflecting her continued commitment to education at both strategic and community levels.
As both an educator and a parent of two boys who have progressed through the grammar school system, she brings a rare combination of professional expertise and lived experience. She understands not only how to prepare children for the 11+, but how to support families through the wider journey with clarity and confidence.
Her teaching is warm, engaging, and purposeful - balancing high expectations with the encouragement children need to take risks, build resilience, and succeed.
Her focus is simple: to develop confident, capable learners who are fully prepared for the 11+ and equipped to thrive beyond it.

Lucy, Co-founder (English)
Lucy is an English specialist with over a decade of experience preparing students for their 11+ exams, including entry to some of the UK’s leading grammar and independent schools. Based in Essex, she has developed a deep understanding of the local grammar school landscape and entry requirements, allowing her to guide families with clarity and precision through what can often feel like a complex and demanding process.
Her teaching is built around a carefully structured syllabus, covering Comprehension and Creative Writing, alongside SPaG and Verbal Reasoning. This creates a well-rounded and rigorous foundation for long-term success, with a strong emphasis on developing depth of thinking and offering a level of academic challenge that extends beyond the classroom.
In 2022, Lucy co-founded The 11+ English Club, a membership offering online tuition, bespoke resources and expert guidance to students in and around the UK. In her most recent cohort, every student secured a place at grammar school, moving into secondary education confident, capable, and ready to thrive.
